In August 2006, Ruben Hilario returned to his native country of Peru to visit family and friends. He also met with a local Peruvian television station, Grupo Pacifico, to inquire about airing some of our Spanish programming that we were already sending to El Salvador. In early 2007, Pastor Loren traveled to Lima with Ruben to meet with the owner of Grupo Pacifico and review our ability to create more programs for their station. Out of those discussions came an opportunity for Call From the Mountain Media Ministries to take an ownership role in Grupo Pacifico. Throughout 2007, various changes and upgrades were made at the station, including the installation of new transmitters, modification of programming, and hiring of new personnel. In 2008, we purchased equipment for the studio, began a transition to cable distribution, and officially completed our ownership transactions.
As growth continued in Peru, the need for an on-site manager from our ministry became apparent. In 2010, Patrick Rouse, a staff minister at Mt. Zion, his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters re-located to Lima as missionaries to South America. Prior to their re-location, Patrick had oversight of the Children’s Ministry within the Family Ministry here at Mt. Zion. He was responsible for the pastoral needs of families as well as the assimilation of new people into the Children’s Ministry. One of his greatest privileges was “helping create an environment that was both appealing and spiritually enriching to the children and their parents.”
Upon settling in Peru, Patrick coordinated the sales and marketing efforts of PacificoTV and its staff, working as a liaison to the home base here in the United States. Today, he works as an advisor to Pastor Loren, Ruben Hilario, and Pedro Ferreira (Grupo Pacifico founder), guiding the overall business structure and operational tactics of the station. “As a commercial station,” Patrick said, “we will produce good quality, conservative programming, while transmitting and broadcasting Christian values.” Within the framework of that vision are four current projects:
• PacificoTV is currently upgrading all equipment to meet the 2014 HD migration deadline.
• Migration from UHF broadcast transmission to full-on cable broadcast in Peru.
• Internet-based video-on-demand that will network the content from Peru, El Salvador,
and the ministry here in the United States.
• Planning for a new feature news-based program, emanating from the PacificoTV
headquarters in Lima.
When Ruben traveled to Peru several years ago, we never expected that God would open so many opportunities for us. We are very excited for what is ahead as we continue to walk with the Lord in His endeavor for South America. One thing is sure: God’s word is true and He will direct our steps!
Past Evangelistic Concert – Lima, Peru 2010
In January 2010, our team of dancers, band, and production crew travelled to Lima, Peru to perform “StandUP 2010” over two nights, for a crowd of over 8,000 people. In the first concert, nearly 1,000 people made first-time commitments to Christ. God is alive and moving in Lima, a city where 75% of the population is 18-years-of-age and under. The harvest field certainly is ripe, not only in our country, but in all nations of the world! In conjunction with our television station, Pacifico, and through partnerships with several local churches, we are committed to bring the “new day” message to the world. Regarding the event, Ashley Covarrubias said, “Those two nights were amazing. It was awesome to see so many young people on fire for God, and to see how He is working in their lives. As a part of Pacifico Television, it is our goal to have good clean entertainment available for young adults, and the concerts really brought that to life. Both concerts really impacted the young people, not only in showing them a good time, but spiritually, too. I am so blessed to be able to be a part!”
The two-night event was a culmination of months of planning, prayer and hard work, rehearsals, and fund-raising. On that note, we would like to thank you, our church family, for your generous financial support of this trip. Certainly, we are living in very difficult economic times, yet you made a precious sacrifice on our behalf, therefore providing an opportunity for the Gospel to be “preached” in a powerful and effective way. Your faithfulness to the work of the ministry at our local church is invaluable and your partnership in this endeavor will not be forgotten.”
